[Movie Review] Dil Dhadakne Do – A Comedy-Drama, that’s it

What do you expect when dozen of big names in Bollywood come together to perform in a comedy-drama? I expect an epic 3 hour ride of fun but alas, I’ve seen better ones.

Dil Dhadakne Do is directed by Zoya Akhtar and is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani. It’s her 3rd movie so far, if we don’t count her contribution in Bombay Talkies. Encapsulating the life of a high class Punjabi business family, Dil Dhadakne Do has a cast which includes Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar and Rahul Bose.

Don’t get judgmental when I say that – I’ve seen better, because I’ve seen worst too. Dil Dhadakne Do (DDD) is surely an entertainer and the acting of biggies doesn’t disappoint you. Though in my opinion, with this star studded cast, it could’ve been better.

The movie is narrated in the voice of the family pet dog – Pluto which was given voice by Aamir Khan. Pluto’s cute presence on screen every once a while narrating the scenes is captured brilliantly.

DDD revolves around a businessman Kamal Mehra’s (Anil Kapoor) family and their unresolved issues towards each other and their lives. Chemistry between Kamal and his wife, Neelam Mehra (Shefali Shah) is represented very well and I’d give the credit to Shefali Shah for this.

Mehra family’s daughter – Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra) struggling with her marriage, their son – Kabir (Ranveer Singh) struggling with his life and their business – Ayka struggling for money creates twists that give a solid plot for comedy-drama that you are promised once you enter in to watch the movie.

The odd pairs of Rahul Bose – Priyanka Chopra along with Bro-Sis pair of Ranveer – Priyanka also amazes with their chemistry. Most of the movie is shot on a cruise and the locations included in the movie are France, Spain, Tunisia, Istanbul and Italy.

I have a very biased opinion when it comes to music but I can safely say that the music in DDD is average.

The supporting cast has also done their bit brilliantly. If you are craving for a good family movie with bits of comedy sprinkled in the plot, DDD is for you. I went in with the expectation of something like Zindagi Milegi na Doobra (yes, am that stupid) hence I was bit disappointed, but I thoroughly enjoyed what I was being served.
