[Movie Review] This Heroine is a Flop

Director: Madhur Bhandarkar Cast: Kareena Kapoor, Randeep Hooda and Arjun Rampal Rating: 1.5/5

If you are not a die-hard fan of Kareena Kapoor and if you don’t worship Madhur Bhandarkar, or if you don’t have an appetite to engulf a script with loose ends – then Heroine is definitely not for you.

Jeweled with the entire bling-bling recipe to make a film hit – Star Cast, Sidekicks, Director and Script on glamor, Heroine still fails to impress audience.

Kareena shows above average acting in the second half, whereas first half lacks her ability to carry out the role of Mahi Arora (Star Actress).

Arjun Rampal (Aryan Khanna) also falls short to impress, either in his roles of a dishonest husband or a lover. Marked with an A- Grade movie, there is nothing save for a love making scene between Aryan and Mahi, and it is shot with a motive that equally serves its purpose later.

If you are dropping in to get some surprises, then the movie won’t deliver any. It’s all been done and delivered in other of Madhur Bhandarkar movies, Heroine is a disappointment.

The story revolves around the central character Mahi, who is delusional, suffering from Bipolar Personality Disorder, an alcoholic and a loser in love. The story narrates the journey of Mahi and her film-career, her struggle with relationships, her tactics to get through the backdrop in career.

The movie clearly entails the flaws in script, it is a film that hyped like a balloon, and when got on to the ground flattened, like a busted balloon.

Besides, the side characters of Randeep Hooda (as Angad), Ranbeer Shorey (as Tarnam Da), Divya Dutta (as Pallavi) and Shahna Goswami (as Pronita Roy) were better portrayed, than the central entity. These sidekicks impress audience with their charm and bang-on performance.

The first half of the movie is such, that you could predict the next dialogue, the second half then becomes a little meaningful with some movie melodrama.

All the songs, except ‘Saayian’ are off-beat and poorly placed in the movie. The item song, ‘Halkat Jawani’ proves that Kareena is nowhere near being an item song material.

I went for the first day- first show and it turned out to be not-so-good decision after being so disappointed by the movie. The major flaw lies in the script and dialogues.

Apart from one dialogue that Pallavi delivers to Mahi towards the end of the movie, there is no captivating discourse in the entire flick.

I was surrounded by 20 other individuals who were, like me, poorly caught in the false promotion of the movie and were cursing it all the time in the PVR multiplex, this morning.
