Veteran actor, writer and director Girish Karnad passed away on 10^th June today after a prolonged illness in Bengaluru at 6:30 a.m. He was 81 years old. He worked in Indian cinema for a long time, both in South Indian movies and Bollywood. Girish Karnad was a recipient of Jnanpith award in 1998, highest literary honour conferred in India. He had a good hold on Kannada and English language. The other awards received by this personality are Padma Shri in 1974 and Padma Bhushan 1992. Indian cinema is in shock due to his demise. May God rest his soul in peace.
