Government informed Lok Sabha that 14 out of the 20 IIMs in the country are running without permanent directors. This information was given as a written reply by Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Mahendra Nath Pandey.
Pandey informed that post of permanent director was lying vacant at the IIMs in Amritsar, Bangalore, Bodh Gaya, Jammu, Kozhikode, Nagpur, Ranchi, Raipur, Rohtak, Sambalpur, Sirmaur, Tiruchirappalli, Udaipur and Visakhapatnam.
He informed that for the seven new IIMs namely Amritsar, Sirmaur, Bodh Gaya, Sambalpur, Nagpur, Visakhapatnam and Jammu, the directors of mentor IIMs are taking care of the directorial duties till the appointment of a permanent director.
For the other IIMs, either the tenure of the existing directors has been extended or the senior most faculty member has been given the charge.
He further added that barring IIM Kozhikode and Jammu, the search-cum-selection committee has recommended a list of candidates for the post of director and the same is under consideration by the Government.
