The Rent Control Authority has evacuated two shops in the city for not paying the rent properly. Both the shops are situated at Suraj Pol near Champa Lal Dharamshala and have been vacated even after continuous objection from the shop keepers.
According to the sources, Vijay Kumar an advocate and one of the trustees of Thakur Kalyan Rai Trust has appealed in the court that shopkeepers who were given these shops on rent are not paying the rent amount. The case was filed in the year 2000 and the verdict came in favour of the trust, consequently in the year 2010 a notice was sent to the shopkeepers.
However, contrary to the court’s order, Harpreet Singh, one of the businessmen whose shop was untenanted today said, “We didn’t receive any notice from the court and moreover we all are paying the monthly rent in time to the person from whom we got the shop.”
Thakur Kalyan Rai Trust that owns multiple shops in the area claimed that the shops were given on rent some 30 years back to a person named Jaswant Kothari, who used the shops for 3 odd years and then rented them to another person named Aqeel and Aqeel rented it to Harpreet Singh who is carrying out his business from there since then.
Shops are being handed over to the trust but no goods have been ceased by the court. The emptied shops cover an area of about 400 sq. feet.
