Rajasthan government has authorised 3 medical colleges of the state for conducting DNA tests. In a meeting of the Medical Department held on Tuesday in Jaipur, the proposal for the DNA tests received theoretical approval in which Udaipur, Jaipur and Jodhpur were authorised for conducting the tests.

DNA tests are done in cases of rape and murder and cases falling under POCSO Act. But until now the facility was available only in the State Forensic Science Laboratory. This also led to delays in legal action in the cases that required DNA test reports. The reports used to arrive in a months’ time hence causing the delay.

Now that 3 medical colleges in the state have been authorised, reports would be available within 24 hours. The medical colleges are also proposing to buy relevant medical equipments for the DNA tests.

Dr Lakhan Poswal, Principal RNT Medical College, Udaipur, while expressing happiness over this news said that RNT Medical College has all the facilities available and the lab will start conducting the tests as per the directives received from the government.
