Following strict orders from District Collector to check the frantic road digging process that is going on across the city by a renowned mobile phone company, district administration discovered over 5Kms of road that had been dug up without permission.

District Collector Ashutosh Pendnekar had held a meeting with officials from the civic authority and representatives of the company on 12th March and had instructed them to them to carry out the audit for the road digging work and related permission.

As per sources, a mobile company had taken permission for underground cabling in the city for building its 4G Network. Area residents are however claiming that the contractor had not covered the dug up road well and this has created multiple problems for the commuters.

Following the complaints, Collector met with the company representatives and directed them to use underground trencher instead of the usual way of digging the road.

Collector also directed the civic administration, including Additional Deputy Magistrate and Executive Engineer of UMC, to inspect the area dug up and check if there was any unauthorized digging.

The authority, on auditing, found illegal digging at 5 different localities including road from Sikh Colony to Sector 11, Thokar Chouraha to Pratap Nagar and Return, areas of Sector 4 and from Pratap Nagar Chouraha to Cotton Mill.

Samar Singh Babel, an executive engineer, informed that no permission was given to dig these areas. The report will now be given to Collector and necessary action will be taken against the company.

According to the Collector, company had requested permission for digging 210kms of road but was granted permission for 70kms only.
