Till a few days ago, it was clinically mentioned that Mucormycosis is related to COVID and the after effects of medication and treatment, especially those hospitalized and with those on oxygen support.

However, data from Udaipur’s MB Hospital has revealed that of the 86 cases of Mucormycosis, 47 were never infected with COVID, and hence have not undergone any treatment for COVID, leave alone oxygen support.

As per the information available, there are currently 86 patients classified as being treated for Mucormycosis in Udaipur. Reports establish that only 39 patients have got COVID at some point. 60 patients being treated for Mucormycosis are also suffering from Diabetes. Of the total 86 patients, only 16 have been on medical oxygen and 43 have been given steroids.

These 86 patients from from 11 disricts across Rajasthan and some from Madhya Pradesh and are undergoing treatment for Mucormycosis in Udaipur.

Mucormycosis committee is working on this information and taking up immediate research to establish the conclusion in the initial phase itself. It has also been established the Mucormycosis is essentially not Black Fungus.
