Government News Updates: Check the Full List of Benefits After Proposed Updates to 8th Pay Commission
Udaipur July 23, 2026 | Government News Updates: The discussions on the updates to the proposed 8th Pay Commission have intensified in the last few weeks. The commission is considering potential changes to the salary increments, Dearness Allowance (DA), Pensions, House Rent Allowances (HRA), salary structures and other benefits for employees of the central and state government as well as those whose remunerations are decided under the Pay Commission.
What and Who Will Benefit
The recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission are expected to benefit approximately 1 Crore people, of which 50 lakh are expected to be Central Government employees and 65 lakh pensioners including retired defence personnel.
Process and Data Consolidation
The 8th Pay Commission, which is headed by former Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai and includes former IAS officer Pankaj Jain and economist Professor Pulak Ghosh as Member Secretary and member respectively, had set June 2026 as the deadline for submitting suggestions. The process of collecting data from various departments will continue till the end of July 2026. Members of the Commission have been visiting various states to hold discussions with employee organisations, unions and the other stakeholders. Decisions regarding the new framework for salaries, allowances and pensions will be made based on these suggestions.

Who Will be the Beneficiaries
Personnel falling the following categories are expected to benefit from the 8th Pay Commissions recommendations, when implemented:
- Central Government industrial and non-industrial employees
- Defense forces personnel
- Employees of Union Territories
- Employees of the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IAAD)
- Employees of regulatory bodies constituted under an Act of Parliament (excluding the RBI)
- Officers and staff of the Supreme Court
- Officers of the All India Services
- Staff of High Courts under the jurisdiction of Union Territories
- Judicial officers of the subordinate judiciary in Union Territories
When are the Recommendations Expected to be Released
The government has directed the Commission to submit its report within 18 months from the date of its constitution (November 3, 2025). Consequently, the Commission's final recommendations are likely to be released between February and April 2027.
However, based on the experience with previous pay commissions, it could take 2 to 3 years for the recommendations to be implemented. This means that if the report is submitted in 2027, the full benefits of the salary and pension revisions might only be realized by 2029 or 2030.
