Supreme Court reprimands Nupur Sharma on comments belittling Prophet Mohammad

The Supreme Court of India has slammed ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her comments on Prophet Mohammad during a TV interview last month.

While dismissing Nupur Sharma's petition to consolidate police complaints filed against her across the country into one, the apex Court, in an unusually strong comment, said that Nupur Sharma must apologise to the country in the manner she has ignited hatred and negative emotions across the country with her loose tongue. The Supreme Court judges said, "the way she has ignited emotions across the country. This lady is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country".

Udaipur is a loud witness to the hatred propagated by Nupur Sharma's remarks, when on 28 June, a tailor was hacked to death over his support to the same comments that Nupur Sharma had made. Kanhaiya Lal was hacked to death on camera by two men who said they were "avenging the insult to Islam". The Supreme Court says her outburst is responsible for the unfortunate incident at Udaipur.

The judges of the Supreme Court, commenting while dismissing her petition, further added, "She actually has a loose tongue and has made all kinds of irresponsible statements on TV and set the entire country on fire. Yet, she claims to be a lawyer of 10 years standing... She should have immediately apologised for her comments to the whole country,"

When Nupur Sharma's advocate told the Supreme Court that she has a threat to her life, Justice Surya Kant said that she has threat or she has become a security threat? The way she has ignited emotions across the country, she is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country.
