Fatal Accident in Udaipur - 3 Children among 7 dead

As per latest news reports, the 7 dead include a 5 yr old, a 6 yr old and a 9 year old. Nearly a dozen injured, 2 serious.

Accident took place near Nandeshwar, 17 km from Udaipur late Wednesday evening. Inebriated driver fled from the scene.

Udaipur: An overloaded pick-up truck carrying nearly 2 dozen people fell into a 30 ft deep gorge near Nandeshwar late Wednesday night, killing 5 people. As per reports available till the time of publishing this news, the 5 dead injured include 3 children under 10 yrs of age.

The group in the ill-fated truck were returning from a pre-wedding ceremony at Kaliwas Village and were returning through the newly construct Udaipur-Jhadol road. Due to speeding and overload, the pick-up went out of control near a turn and fell into a 30 feet gorge. Over a dozen people have sustained injuries, of which 4 are serious.  All injured have been taken immediately to MB General Hospital in Udaipur.

As news of the accident spread, the police team from Nai Thana rushed to the spot and an ambulance was called to rush the dead and injured to hospital.  Of the 5 who died on the spot, 3 were children, aged 5, 6, and 9 yrs.  All the passengers belonged to Kharapna near Kaya Village on the Udaipur Ahmedabad highway. The District Collector and SP of Udaipur also reached the spot.

Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot, who is visiting Udaipur on 15 April, tweeted his condolences.
