Jaipur, December 20: Eight people have been declared dead in a massive accident that took place on the Jaipur Ajmer highway today morning at around 6:45. As per reports from the police, a collision of a chemical-laden truck resulted in a blast and chemical spilled on the road. Around 37 people have been reported injured in the incident that rocked the state capital on Friday.

The incident occured when a truck hit a tanker filled with chemical and this resulted in a massive blast which could be heard for miles. The accident happened on the Jaipur Ajmer highway, opposite the Delhi Public School. Of the 8 who died, 3 were identified as males and one as female. The identities of the other deceased is yet not clear. Of those injured, 12 are reported to be in critical condition. Nearly 40 vehicles on the highway and a pipe factory located in the vicinity have been engulfed in the resultant fire. A 300 meter stretch along the highway was shut down following the incident.
As per stakeholders in the Jaipur city administration, most of the blaze has been brought under control and a corridor has been set up to transfer the injured to hospital for critical care.
