A special and fast track court for protection of children from sexual offences act Dungarpur (POCSO) has awarded a 20 year rigorous imprisonment to a 30 year old man for raping a 17 year old minor girl who is his own sister in law. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.52000 as fine on the convict.

The Public Prosecutor Yogesh Joshi informed that the father of the victim girl lodged an FIR at Kua police station of the district on 8th January 2023 in which he stated that he is a father of 5 girls and 3 sons.The accused is the husband of his eldest daughter. Few days back the accused stopped the victim when she was heading towards her school, he threatened her and forcibly took her to Mehsana Gujarat where kept her hostage in a room, and raped on multiple occasions.Later during the investigation of the matter the police learnt that the victim was kidnapped by his own brother in law and was kept in a room somewhere at Mehsana.

Joshi said that upon getting the inform a team of Dungarpur police rushed to Mehsana and raided the said place where they found the victim girl but the accused somehow managed to fled the scene.

Later the accused was arrested and booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code including section 366 ( Whoever kidnaps or abducts any woman with intent that she may be compelled, or knowing it to be likely that she will be compelled, to marry any person against her will, or in order that she may be forced or seduced to illicit intercourse, or knowing it to be likely that she will be forced or seduced to illicit intercourse, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine) 376 (Punishment for Rape) and POCSO Act.

Joshi added that the victim in her statement said that the accused wanted to keep her a wife, he raped her multiple times.She also stated that when she tried to escape once from the room he beaten her badly and threaten her with a knife.

After considering the testimony, the witnesses and the documents presented during the trail the court pronounced the verdict and awarded him to 20 years in jail and also imposed a panelty of Rs. 52000 cash to the convict.
