This week was for the first time celebrated in 1992 by World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and is now observed in around 120 countries of the world including India.
In Udaipur, on occasion of breastfeeding week, a workshop was organised by Mahila Mandal School at Mukharji Chowk in association with Rotary Club. Here, Dr. Devendra Sareen highlighted to young girls the benefits of breastfeeding.
In his address to girls, Dr. Sareen said that breastfeeding is beneficial not only for new born, but also for the mother as it reduces the chances of breast cancer and reduces post pregnancy fat loss. The new born, on the other hand, is protected from deadly diseases like pneumonia. He also said that it is imperative that the new born is breast feed for at least 6 months.
