National Award Winner actress Surekha Sikri passes away at 75

The veteran actress suffered a cardiac arrest this Friday morning.

The 3 time National Award Winner was well known for her power packed performances.

She had become a household name because of the serial Balika Vadhu.

Veteran actress and 3-time National Award Winner Surekha Sikri passed away this morning in Mumbai due to cardiac arrest. The actress was 75. (19th April 1945-16th July 2021)

“She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram”, as informed by her manager.

Surekha appeared on the silver screen first time in 1978 with “Kissa Kursi Ka”. After this she bagged several roles in films like Tamas, Sardari Begum and Mammo.  She became a household name with TV serial Balika Vadhu.

Surekah Sikri won a national award for film Badhaai Ho in 2018. She appeared last in Netflix anthology Ghost Stories where she played the role of a bedridden patient lost in her own world. Her power packed performances moved the audience. Her co-stars will always remember her as a spectacular person. She has been referred to a “force of nature”, “a stalwart, a legend, an institution in herself”, “an artist par excellence”, by various actors and her co-stars.
