Rains over Udaipur expected to continue well into September like last few years

Udaipur has experienced a notable improvement in air quality during August, thanks to the monsoon season. Rainfall this month has effectively reduced air pollution, leading to a significant drop in the Air Quality Index (AQI). Notably, the AQI did not exceed 100 on any day in August. Additionally, half of the days saw the AQI fall below 50, a level considered good for health.

Throughout the first eight months of 2024, August has stood out as the best month for air quality in Udaipur. The AQI mostly remained below 50, indicating a favourable environment for residents. The lowest AQI recorded this month was 21 on August 25, 2024 while the highest was 69 on August 7 and August 20, 2024.

Understanding AQI levels is straightforward

  • An AQI of 100 or less is considered good.
  • 1 to 50 is classified as good.
  • 51 to 100 is moderate.
  • 101 to 200 is poor.
  • 201 to 300 is hazardous to health.
  • 301 to 400 is very serious.
  • 401 to 500 is extremely dangerous.
  • Values above 500 indicate an emergency.

In contrast, the past eight months have seen significant fluctuations in air quality. The worst day was March 31, when the AQI soared to 366. From January to June, only three days had an AQI below 50. January and February saw a mix of days, with half below 100 and half above. March to May experienced most days with AQI levels above 100. However, from June to August, the AQI remained below 100.
