Approximately 40 Indians Among 63 Cases of Contaminated Alcohol Poisoning in Kuwait
As per media reports, there have been 13 deaths among those that were being treated, of which 10 were Indians.
Kuwait, Aug 14, 2025: Contaminated alcohol outbreak in Kuwait has claimed 13 lives, of whic 10 are reportedly Indians. Media reports in the Middle East country of Kuwait, have reported 63 cases of alcohol poisoning in Kuwait over the last six days, beginning Saturday, August 9, 2025. Of the 63 cases, approximately 40 have been found to be Indians. A helpline number +965 655 01587 has been set up for both WhatsApp as well as direct calling to provide information to families of those affected.
The Ministry of Health in Kuwait has informed that the cases relate to consumption of locally manufactured alcoholic drinks, that were contaminated with Methanol. The severity of infection have varied, with13 deaths, 51 needing urgent kidney dialysis, 31 also on respiratory ventilation and 21 suffering permanent blindness or significany vision impairment.
As per reports, special task forces have raided the suspected distribution points and around 10 people have been arrested after the patients influx turned into a matter of civic concern. Legal action is being taken against those involved based on inputs from the detainees, who have disclosed several production sites including Kirby and Jleeb Al Shuyoukh. The authorities are also on the lookout for any more suspected cases and have urged the residents to report on such suspected cases.
