Many political and social organizations welcomed the strike proposed by BJP on Thursday 31 st May 2012, which will take place across the country, to protest against the recent petrol price hike. Along with Bhartiya Janata Party, BMS, BJP’s Youth Wing, Shiv Sena, BJP’s women’s wing (Mahila Morcha) and Udaipur BAR association also announced their support for the ‘Bandh’. “The strike would be compelled to everything except hospitals and competitive exams. Everything will remain close from 9 am to 6 pm,” said Dinesh Bhatt District Head of BJP. “The petrol price hike has affected everyone, especially the daily wage workers. It has become more difficult for them to earn enough to afford two meals a day because of this hike. Prices should be brought down for the welfare of the nation,” said Sunderlal Bhanavat, Rural Head for BJP. “We are not supporting the bandh simply because of the BJP, but on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce. We appeal to the common mass to cooperate with us to make this event successful. The uprising price of petrol has turned everyone’s life upside down,” said Paras Singhvi, Head of the Chamber of Commerce in a conversation with UT. The City Administration has made all due preparations for tomorrow’s bandh and have taken all the necessary precautions to maintain law and order during the day.
