Ambulance services have been classified as transport vehicles meant for social service, under the Motor Vehicle 1988, as they are exempt from taxes. In the COVID pandemic, Ambulance services are classified under services of paramount importance.

However, the Ambulance services being run by some private entities are charging exorbitant sums of money for transporting COVID patients inter-city or from home to hospital. The RTO – Rajasthan released a rate card for Ambulance services to curtail the incidents of high charges being taken by ambulances during such times.

The state government, on 26 April 2021 defined a rate card for Ambulance services, which overrides all previous rates defined by district RTOs and District Collectors. The Rate Card for Ambulance Services is as follows:

1. First 10 km (two way): Rs. 500/-
2. Post 10km, the following per KM rates will apply:
   1. Maruti Van, Marshal, Max, etc.: Rs. 12.50 per KM
   2. Tavera, Innova, Bolero, Cruiser, Renault, etc.: Rs. 14.50 per KM
   3. Other larger vehicles or hearse (vehicle carrying dead bodies): Rs. 17.50 per KM
3. Air Conditioned vehicles carry an additional charge of Rs. 1/- per KM
4. Ambulances carrying COVID vehicles can charge an additional Rs. 350/- per service, for the PPE Kits and sanitization costs that are borne by the Ambulance
5. Those using ambulance for COVID patients / transporting dead bodies will need to give the charges for two way transportation.
6. No additional charges will be applicable for night hours.
7. No additional charges for washing vehicle etc.
