Asia Cup 2025 in Doubt as ACC Meet Faces Boycott
BCCI officially declines participation due to political tensions with Bangladesh
July 19, 2025 - The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting, which was scheduled to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh on July 24, is now facing trouble. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and some other member boards have decided to boycott the meeting owing to political and diplomatic reasons.
According to a report by India Today, the BCCI has officially informed the ACC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, that it will not take part in the meeting if it is held in Dhaka. This decision has been made because of the current tense political relations between India and Bangladesh.
Not only India, but Sri Lanka, Oman and the Afghanistan Cricket Board have also decided to boycott the ACC meeting. They have raised similar concerns about the venue. Still, ACC chairman Naqvi remains firm on holding the meeting in Dhaka.
According to reports, the BCCI has clearly informed Naqvi about its decision and has also requested a change of venue. However, no response has been received so far.
As per the ACC rules, any decision made in the meeting without the presence of major member boards can be seen as invalid. The report also said that Naqvi’s insistence on Dhaka is being viewed as an attempt to pressure India regarding Asia Cup matters.
With only five days left for the meeting, there is still no official update on changing the venue. This has raised serious doubts about the future of the Asia Cup 2025.
