Australia Awards Fellowship for Vidya Bhawan’s Anil Mehta, Four Others

The Udaipur team will study the Ayad Basin, while seven water experts from Nepal will focus on the Chure-Terai Basin

Udaipur, April 12, 2025 - Water resource expert Dr Anil Mehta, along with personnel from Vidya Bhawan, CTAE, and the Watershed Development Department, has been awarded the Australia Awards Fellowship. This international fellowship is provided by the Australian Government's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The study programme is being organised jointly by the Institute for Study and Development Worldwide, Western Sydney University, and the Australia India Water Centre.

The delegation will depart for Australia tomorrow, April 13.

The fellowship, beginning on April 14, will be conducted under the leadership of Dr Basant Maheshwari and Dr Basundhara Bhattarai, with co-ordination by Dr Nick Schofield and Dr Roger Peckham.

Participants from India include Dr Anil Mehta and Dr Sudhama Jain from Vidya Bhawan, Prahlad Soni, Dr Manjeet Singh from CTAE, Sushila Yadav from the Watershed Development Department, and Mohan Sharma from Gujarat.

Additionally, seven water experts from Nepal will also take part.

Vidya Bhawan president Dr Jitendra Tayalia and executive director Rajendra Bhatt said that under the fellowship, the Udaipur team will study the Ayad Basin, while the Nepalese team will focus on the Chure-Terai Basin. Both groups will examine key challenges related to climate change in Australia’s watershed regions, including the Hawkesbury-Nepean, Hunter Valley, Wingecarribee, and Wollongong catchments.
