Employee union of Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL) protested against the company’s decision of privatization and may release tender for Public Private Partnership soon. Over a hundred employees gathered outside the head office of AVVNL at Patel Circle.
The government owned AVVNL is said to be going through a loss which is speculated as one of the reasons why the company is going private.
However, the employee claimed that the privatization is not going to solve the problem, while claiming that they are the best to handle the situation only if they are provided with the basic resources.
“The employees of AVVNL are working with very few or completely no resources. “We are not demanding much, but at least provide us the resources which are sanctioned in the past budget,” said Ashok Kumar Jha, engineer.
“There are 358 posts vacancy in AVVNL, we promise to the government if they provide us all needed resources including appoint people on vacant posts, then we can give the boost to the company in next 2 years,” said one of the employees during the protest.
He continued, “We are capable of everything, but if we don’t get support, how we will work.”
An employee on condition of anonymity said that the government is saying that the company is in loss, which is of their own. Because of providing cheap electricity to poor and needy, and by giving cheap electricity to farmers, the company has faced loss crore of rupees. If AVVNL puts up with that loss, there is absolutely no need of going private.
The employees union said that the protest will spread across the state.
