Udaipur July 10, 2026 | International News, Iran: The crammed Mashhad streets were witness to the culmination of a week long funeral event of the slain Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Supreme Leader was buried in the Imam Reza Shrine, which is the country's holiest shrine, as per state media, early morning on July 10. There was a huge crowd of mourners, sans his son and successor Mojtaba Khamenei who is still away from public view.

Rallies, mourning ceremonies and mass processiones preceded the final burial after a week. This event was also overshadowed by the conflict between US and Iranian forces, that unfolded after nearly a month of truce, subsequent to a four month long war. Khamenir was the first casualty of the war that began with the US strikes on Feb 28, 2026.

The body of the slain leader was slowely eased past crammed roads in Mashhad as the procession led to its culmination at the holy Imam Reza Shrine. White turbaned clerics accompanied by mourners in black accompanied the funeral procession. Mourners waved Iranian flags, displayed revolutionary slogans and asked for the head of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
