The world-renowned Badi Lake (Jiyan Sagar) is grappling with escalating pollution, posing a significant threat to the existence of Mahseer fish. This pressing concern was raised during the Lake Dialogue held on Sunday, July 4,2024, where experts urged the declaration of the lake as "Eco Sacred." 

Dr. Anil Mehta, member of the Mahseer Conservation Reserve Monitoring Committee and joint secretary of Jheel Sanrakshan Samiti, emphasized that the state government has already designated Badi Lake as a Mahseer Conservation Reserve and part of the eco-sensitive zone of Sajjangarh. He stressed the need to prevent anthropogenic pollution, advocating for a complete ban on food items, snacks, alcohol, and disposable plastics within the lake's boundaries.

Dr. Mehta warned that if plastic and polluting waste continue to enter the lake, it will harm the metabolism, growth, and reproduction of Mahseer fish, ultimately jeopardizing their lives. He highlighted the lake's unique ecosystem, similar to the Himalayan system, and its potential to serve as a "gene bank" in case of a crisis.

Lake conservationists Tej Shankar Paliwal, Nand Kishor Sharma, Kushal Rawal, and Drupad Singh condemned the rising pollution-causing activities on the lake, citing violations of the Rajasthan High Court's directives. They pointed out the harmful practices of washing vehicles in the lake, dumping waste, and disposing of dead animals, which obstruct light and air flow and harm aquatic life.

The experts emphasized the need for urgent action to protect the lake and its heritage. A massive lake shore cleaning drive was organized prior to the dialogue, underscoring the community's commitment to preserving the lake's ecosystem.
