Bambaiya Bazaar and the Misery of Fateh SagarThe food stall owners of the ‘Bambaiya Bazaar’ at Fatehsagar are mulling over the future of their decades old business, the existence and popularity of their area of business now being in jeopardy. The events over the last few days started with an abrupt move by the Divisional Commissioner Subodh Kumar Agarwal.

The Divisional Commissioner had instructed that the eateries at the “Bambaiya Bazaar” be shifted from their current position in front of the lake shore, to a more esoteric section within the Maharana Pratap Smarak (Moti Magri). This was decided taking into consideration the potential risk of lak pollution that these eateries were causing in their current location.

However, the orders by Divisional Commissioner was later termed only as a ‘strong suggestion’ and authorities are still looking for an alternative solution to stop the lake pollution and at the same time moving the food stalls to an appropriate location.

All the food vendors at ‘Bambaiya Bazaar’ are now preparing to meet the Divisional Commissioner to take a decision in their favor.

In order to lift their voice further, the food vendors have sent a letter to Dr. Subodh Kumar Agarwal Division Commissioner, stating their problems.

The letter narrates the story of 30 vendors who are doing their business on the lake shore from the last 20-25 years and that this is their only source of income. They also assured to keep their vicinity clean but it is certainly not possible to manage those who buy food stuffs from some other places and eat on shore of the lake. This is one of the major reasons of the lake edges becoming a dumping ground.

According to the first statement, Dr. Agarwal asked the food stalls to be shifted within the Moti Magri compound but that will not affect the motive significantly. The local media is also suggesting shifting the food joints to the Dewali side of the Paal or towards Sanjay Park but the solution will remain evasive as both areas are near the lake.

UT urges its readers to pour their valuable suggestions on the issue because it is not only administration and food vendors but also the common people who are also equally responsible for preserving or polluting the lake.
