A bank has been penalised by Consumer Forum for dishonouring a cheque for no reason and for deducting charges as per bank rules against dishonoured cheques.

As per reports, Lakshman Singh had taken loan from a company in Indore. He gave instalment cheques for repayment of the loan. The cheques were drawn on SBI, Udaipur. Lakshman reported that SBI dishonoured his cheques even when there was enough balance in his account.

The bank also debited charges in his account against dishonoured cheques. Later the bank even sent his cheques in clearing. Consumer Forum has penalised the bank after proper investigations and the bank has been directed to pay 5000 rupees to the account holder.
