A tea vendor in Ogna of Jhadol district became a victim of ATM fraud a few days back. Resident of UP, Shashi Chaurasia w/o Rajesh Kumar Chaurasia, a tea vendor, received 3 SMS one after the other regarding withdrawal of 25000/-  from her account in Bank of Baroda. This came as a shock since the account holder has not even had an ATM card issued in her name. She informed the same to her husband since neither of them had made a withdrawal.

Rajesh Kumar contacted the bank branch in Jhadol stating the fear of bank employees being involved in the act. Despite this, the bank manager did not make efforts to look into the matter and dismissed the victim. On Tuesday, Rajesh Chaurasia went to the bank with some of the other villagers and demanded details of the transaction.

The branch manager, on being pressurised by the crowd, looked into the register for details. The register had details of ATM cards issued to the other villagers but there were no details of the victim’s card. This increased the suspicion that this fraudulent act was conducted by the bank employees. Pressurised by the villagers, the bank manager assured them that an investigation would be carried out to find the details within 24 hours. Only after assurance of investigation, the villagers along with the victim left the bank premises. BOB Regional Manager Surendra Sharma has issued orders to the branch manager to produce an investigation report at the earliest.
