National Anthem needs to be treated with respect, we all know this. Until now we have been standing up immediately whether in restaurants, movie theatres, open spaces etc. the moment the national anthem reached our ears. But now, there is an amendment in the law regarding our National Anthem.
On Tuesday, the Supreme court made it clear that if the National Anthem is being played in a movie or the story line of a documentary, the country-men need not stand up. The bench of Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice R.Bhanumati were giving hearing for a number of petitions for the decision of 30th November as per which it was declared necessary to play the national anthem before the screening of films and all people present must stand up in respect.
According to one petition, standing up in a movie theatre in respect of National Anthem is not necessary.
