Beyond Udaipur: MIG-21 crashes in Barmer

A MIG-21 aircraft crashed in Sivkar Kudla village in Barmer district today afternoon. After the crash, two nearby Dhaanis caught fire. Efforts are being made to extinguish the fire. MIG-21 was on its routine flight. Three injured as a result of crash have been taken to the nearby hospital, the pilot is reportedly safe.

Army, District administration, fire brigade and police reached the spot after hearing about the crash.

In the past three years, Indian Air force has lost around 12 MIG planes. A number of pilots have lost their lives. Even in June 2016, a MIG-21 Bison fighter aircraft crashed in Uttarlai airbase in which the pilot was killed. As per sources, MIG crashes have resulted in deaths of 171 pilots and 39 civilians. Indian Air Force has lost a number of talented pilots in such crashes.
