In a bizarre incident yesterday, a runaway train engine travelled almost 13 kms without a driver. The railway officials chased the engine on a bike and somehow managed to climb up and stop the engine.

Yesterday afternoon, a Mumbai bound train reached Karnataka’s Wadi Junction. The electric engine was being swapped with a diesel engine. When the loco pilot got off after switching the engines, to his dismay, the diesel engine began moving on its own in the opposite direction.

Railway staff members then started chasing the engine on a motorbike. The engine was moving at a speed of 30km/hr. The next few stations were alerted to clear the tracks and avoid any accident.

After 20 min, the engine slowed down and this is when the railway officials managed to board it and bring it to a halt.

Thankfully no mishap was reported. A special probe has been launched into the incident.
