Cyclone Dana is heading towards the Odisha-Bengal coast, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting it will make landfall between Bhitarkanika Park and Dhamra Port. This storm has formed from a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Heavy Rainfall Alerts Issued
The IMD has issued heavy rainfall alerts for several districts in both Odisha and West Bengal. Residents are advised to stay prepared for severe weather conditions.
Governments and Rescue Forces on High Alert
Both the Odisha and West Bengal governments are on high alert. The Coast Guard, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other rescue teams are ready to respond. All schools in the coastal districts of both states have been closed. Evacuation processes are already in motion in coastal districts expected to be severely affected by Cyclone Dana. Authorities are urging residents to move to safer areas as a precaution.
Forecasted Impact of Cyclone Dana
The IMD expects the depression to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Tuesday evening. It is likely to cross the Odisha-West Bengal coasts in the early hours of October 25, with wind speeds reaching 100-110 mph and gusts up to 120 mph.
