The United States of America just selected its 45th President in the form of Donald Trump, when results were declared a while ago. 

70 year old Trump, blew up the electoral map of the United States taking 276 seats, six more than the mandated 270 of the 538 required for winning the coveted President ship of the United States of America.  Trump conquered the key states of Florida, Ohio, NC and Pennsylvania in his run up to the podium.

The Republican party retained control of the House of Representatives even as they won the US Senate with 51 seats and the US House with 235.

Under the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, American Businessman and Television Producer is scheduled to take oath of Office as the 45th PResident of the United States of Americaon 20th January 2017, which will also be the last day in office for President Barack Obama.

Trump will renounce his position from The Trump Organization and will vacate his post of Chairman and President of The Trump Organization, which is the principal holding company for his real estate ventures and other business interests, prior to his assumption of the Presidency.  His business career spanning over decades has witnessed building office towers, Hotels, Casinos, Golf Courses and many other facilities globally.

Earlier during counting of votes, the Republicans took an early lead and the Republican candidate confounded pollsters after the party took the key swing states of Ohio, North Carolina and Florida early in the morning and maintained momentum.  Hillary Clinton, interestingly did not concede defeat earlier on, but later called Trump and congratulated him on his victory.

Similar to the shock waves sent across India by Narendra Modi’s announcement yesterday, the victory of Donald Trump comes as another shock across the globe. It will be interesting to see how the stock markets including India’s Sensex and Nifty react to this victory as apparently, none have factored in a Trump victory. much like other markets globally.  Local indexes are expcted to fall 1-2% getting along a good buying opportunity for investors.  IT Stocks specially are bound to take a bigger hit looking at Trumps agenda.

Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election will sound off a negative for all emerging markets, including India as it is expected to create deman for safe-haven investments like Gold and developed-world bonds.
