Flying cars have been a part of our dreams, more so after watching the Bruce Willis and Milla Jovovich starrer The Fifth Element of 1997.
To make our dreams come true, Uber is now planning to replace its taxis with flying cars by 2020 in Dubai and Texas. Uber Chief Product Officer Jeff Holden specified that urban aviation was the “natural next step” for Uber.
The flying taxis will be small, electric aircrafts which will take off and land vertically with zero emissions and silent enough to operate in cities. In the long term, the cost of flying taxis will fall below car ownership.
These flying cars will be an affordable form of daily transportation. The plan also includes “vertiports” for the flyers to take off and land. Uber plans to first demonstrate in Dubai in 2020 in the World Expo and later have full scale operations in Dallas by 2023.
