Indian Optometrist created gold plated diamond studded lenses in 2011 to bring that special twinkling look to the eye. Since his wife had diamond planted on her teeth, he decided to develop this special lens as an accessory and not necessity realising that people love jewellery anytime anywhere. Chandrashekhar Chawan used Boston Scleral lenses to hold the jewellery so that it doesn’t touch the cornea and keeps the eye safe.

His invention has got mixed responses from public. Some found them weird, some find them scary, some named them horrible, some haunting and some loved them and are even willing to buy. The lenses have even been talked about giving ‘animal eyes’ kind of look.

The lenses were priced at 18000 rupees. Chawan claims to have used 24 carat gold particles to create the look. He believes that people will buy them to be the centre of attraction and that these will be the next big thing in Bollywood.
