Medal-winning Indian para-athlete Suvarna Raj slammed Indigo for not allowing her to board the Delhi-Udaipur flight yesterday. She said that officials said that there was not enough time to scan her wheelchair and that it was not their fault that she was wheelchair bound.

Suvarna Raj missed her IndiGo flight to Udaipur yesterday allegedly as the security men at the Delhi airport failed to scan her wheelchair because of lack of equipment.

Suvarna said that her flight was to take off at 1:35 pm but when she headed to check-in, security said that it will take time to scan her wheelchair. She raised concern as to why does the airport authority not use technologies that are currently in use internationally.

Indigo however maintained that Suvarna arrived late for the flight and counters had closed by then. They said that considering that she was a para athlete of national repute she was booked on another flight at no additional costs.

Suvarna was in limelight a few weeks back as well when she was allotted upper birth while travelling in a trail from Delhi. She maintained that we need to be sensitised, aware and helpful to people with disabilities if we have to build a humanitarian society.
