In a major haul, excise department seized liquor cartons worth Rs 40 Lakh during checking on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad highway. The trailer carrying the liquor cartons was seized at Kherwara Toll booth.

The driver and compatriot however took advantage of the darkness and fled the scene. The trailer was carrying nearly 1000 cartons of Haryana made liquor.

As per the details received, Kherwada Excise officer Mahipal Singh received a tip-off from an informer about the truck carrying liquor. He immediately rushed to Bichhiwada with his team and set up a check-post. The truck driver, sensing the check-post, abandoned the truck and fled with his accomplice.

Investigating team is evaluating the truck papers to identify the owner. It is suspected that the liquor was destined towards Gujarat.

Big question: Does this mean more liquor for “rats”?
