The second largest cattle fair in India takes place in Nagaur, Rajasthan, every year. The estimated dates for the festival in 2017 are 1st Feb to 4th Feb. The festival celebrated with zeal attracts a lot of foreign tourists, too, as they feel tempted to watch the charisma associated with this festival.
Almost 2 Lakh plus animals are part of this festival. Camels, cows, horses and bulls are brought here for trading purposes. Since this festival takes place in Nagaur district, it is also known as Nagaur festival. Colours of Rajasthan can be seen in bright hues as the women also gather here in the best of the brightest attires and adornments.
Animals also compete by means of bull races, camel races and cock fights. The animal owners decorate their animals very beautifully. The decorations on the animals are also a centre of attraction for the tourists. Even the owners dress up in loud colours so that they can be noticed in the crowd and this way selling their product becomes easy. Programmes are held for the public in the evening. Folk music and folk dance are the highlights of the evening celebrations.
Nagaur is also famous for its red chilli and dried methi leaves known as Nagauri methi.
