Morena in Madhya Pradesh was in a state of commotion when 21 peacocks were found dead this morning.

Indian National Bird Peacock seems to be in danger once again as 21 peacocks were found dead in a village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. Forest department has taken the dead birds in their custody.

Reasons behind the incident can be found out only after post-mortem. As per police from Sumavali station, villagers from Hatupura reported spotting dead peacocks at various places. The forest department team went to the village and took all the dead peacocks in their custody.

It is said that this area is rocky forest where peacocks are found in abundance. Lack of water could be a possible reason behind the deaths of peacocks but other probabilities are also being investigated.

Killing peacock is strictly prohibited under section 51(1-A). It attracts imprisonment which could go beyond 7 years and also a fine which is not less than 10,000 rupees. The peacock is India’s National bird since 1963. Because of its beautiful feathers and the superstition linked to the peacocks, these mighty birds are being brutally killed in India.
