Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced today that it will soon issue and circulate new notes of Rs 10 denomination enhanced security features. The move has come four months after PM Narendra Modi declared the currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 as invalid on November 8 for weeding out black money.

RBI however clarified that while the new notes will be issued, the old Rs 10 notes will also remain valid.

Press release from RBI stated: “The Reserve Bank of India will shortly issue Rs 10 denomination banknotes in the Mahatma Gandhi Series-2005 with inset letter `L` in both the number panels, bearing the signature of Urjit R. Patel, Governor, Reserve Bank of India, and the year of printing `2017` printed on the reverse of the banknote”.

2017, the year of printing will be on the reverse side of the note. Numerals on both the panels will be in a size of ascending from left to right.

The press release further clarified, “All the banknotes in the denomination of Rs 10 issued by the bank (RBI) in the past will continue to be legal tender”.
