SpiceJet ordered to pay Rs 16000 to Udaipur resident as compensation

Consumer forum has directed Spice Jet to pay a compensation of Rs 16000 to Narendra Joshi, a resident of Udaipur. This compensation is to be paid on account of cancellation of Spice Jet flight from Port Blair to Guwahati and for non-accommodation of passengers in any other flight.

The consumer forum gave verdict in a case that has been in hearing for 3 years. 15 members from Udaipur were scheduled to go from Port Blair to Guwahati. Narendra Joshi, resident of Mangalam Appartments, Shobhagpura had booked tickets for 15 people from Port Blair to Guwahati on Spice Jet. Tickets were booked on flight SG 883 for 18 Sept 2013. One day before the flight was to depart from Port Blair, Spice Jet announced cancellation of the flight and did not even make arrangement for the passengers on their other flight on the route.

Joshi then through his own effort got a booking done on alternate flight SG 219.  This flight however was not direct and the passengers had to change flight in Kolkata.

On hearing the, consumer forum bench consisting of Randhir Singh Naruka and Anubha Sharma ordered Spice Jet to pay Rs 16000 as compensation for mental disturbance to the customer and for inefficient delivery of service.
