Planning to visit Sri Lanka this year?

Here is everything you need to know about the interesting deals that the Sri Lankan government is offering if you intend to travel there this year. Along with a separate Sita trail, the government is preparing a Ramayana trail. Intriguingly, the government is also debating the prospect of allowing Indian Rupee (INR) for transactions on the island.

The Indian epic Ramayana has a deep cultural and historical link to Sri Lanka. Hindu mythology describes Sri Lanka as the home country of Ravana, the ten-headed demon ruler who kidnapped Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, the protagonist of the Ramayana.

Sigiriya

There are a number of locations in Sri Lanka that are thought to be connected to the Ramayana. Sigiriya, an old rock fortress that is a towering granite column that stands 180 metres tall and is thought to be King Ravana's palace, is one of the Ramayana trails in Sri Lanka. According to legend, Sita was held imprisoned by Ravana in a cave close to the Sigiriya Rock. One of Sri Lanka's most popular tourist attractions.

Ashoka Vatika

Another well-liked destination is the park in Nuwara Eliya called Ashok Vatika. This is thought to have been the location where Ravana imprisoned Sita. According to legend, Hanuman encountered Sita here and presented her with Lord Rama's ring as a sign of his presence.

Ravana Ella Falls

Ravana Ella Falls come after that. The location of Sita's hiding spot after Ravana kidnapped her is thought to be this waterfall in the Ella town. The location of Sita's purification test by fire is thought to have taken place at the Divurumpola temple, a temple close to the town of Bandarawela.

Temple Village of Trincomalee

Numerous temples in the well-known temple village of Trincomalee have some connection to the Ramayana Trail. One such shrine is the Koneswaram Temple. It is thought that Lord Rama erected this temple in praise of Lord Shiva.

The Ramayana-related sites that can be seen in Sri Lanka are countless; these are just a few instances. Sri Lankan culture has been profoundly influenced by the Ramayana, and many natives take pleasure in teaching foreigners about the epic.
