CS Karnan, Calcutta High Court’s Justice today sentenced Chief Justice of India (CJI) JS Khekhar along with six other Supreme Court judges to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment by pronouncing them guilty under SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act. Karnan has been accusing the seven judge bench of discriminating against him as he was from the Dalit Community.

Karnan is facing contempt charges from Supreme Court for accusing colleagues of corruption.

He is accused of degrading the judiciary of the country. Supreme Court had earlier rejected his demand for being allowed to discharge judicial duties by noting that he was not in clear state of mind and had issued a bailable warrant against him.

Karnan in response issued non-bailable warrants against the seven judges for not appearing before him after he summoned them to his residential court on April 13.

Supreme court had earlier ordered Calcutta High Court to get Karnan to undergo medical tests for checking his psychological conditions. Karnan however refused to undergo the tests.
