An old woman was robbed in Jhadol around 12 noon today. 90 year old Kanchan Bai was busy with daily chores at home when a man, posing to be jewellery cleaner from a company in Bihar, came to her.

Befooling the old lady, the fraudulent man asked her to take off her silver anklets, cleaned them to give a shine and gave back to her. He then took her gold chain and 4 bangles for cleaning. 10 minutes later, he was joined by another man who asked for a cooker. They asked her to put some water and turmeric powder in the cooker and closed the lid. In the meantime, they stole the jewellery while the old lady was busy fetching the cooker. The cooker was then put on the gas flame to be opened after 10 minutes. They then left saying they would be back after 10 minutes. While going, they latched the door from outside.

When the old lady opened the cooker after some time, there was no jewellery in it. She tried to run outside for help. Since the door was locked from outside, she started shouting to attract peoples’ attention. The neighbours, on hearing her shout, opened the door and learnt of the robbery. The accused escaped. Police have been informed and are looking into the matter.

Word of caution :

Despite a lot of news information being circulated on these kinds of cases, people are still being robbed where old ladies and ignorant housewives are the main target. There is a desperate need for an awareness campaign. People need to alert the older members of the house against these incidents. Many times, uneducated females fall prey to the idea of getting more out of what they already have and are also befooled by the magic tricks. Lack of awareness results in loss.
