Bihar Elections 2025: Women Shatter Voting Records
Women voted at a record 71.6%, as much as 8.8% more than the men with the latter recording 62.8% turnout, a significant gap that could be crucial
Nov 13, 2025 – Women voters have emerged as a silent force in the Bihar Assembly elections which concluded on November 11, 2025. This election saw the highest number of women voters in Bihar’s history. Women voted at a record 71.6%, as much as 8.8% more than the men with the latter recording 62.8% turnout, a significant gap that could be crucial.
These figures were released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) which reveals that at least 4,34,000 more women than men had turned out to vote in both the phases. Analysts say that each constituency saw, on an average, around 1,800 more women than men turning up.
These votes are expected to play a decisive role in determining which party will form the government in the State.
Before the elections, the government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in October had transferred Rs 2,500 crore through DBT into the bank accounts of 25 lakh women across Bihar giving financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each under Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. Earlier on September 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had transferred the fund of Rs 7,500 crore to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women through video conferencing from Delhi. So far, a total of Rs 10,000 crore has been transferred to the accounts of around one crore women beneficiaries.
On the other hand, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav has promised to deposit Rs 30,000 into every woman’s account under the Mai-Bahin Man Yojana. He believes that women’s votes could help his alliance form the government.
This direct cash benefit is being considered an important factor behind the change in women’s voting behavior.
During the 2025 Bihar Assembly constituency elections, a total of 66.91% voting was recorded, the highest turnout in the State since 1951.
The election results will be announced on November 14.
