The Leopards who killed the “chinkaras” Gazella Bennettii in the Biological Park at Sajjangarh is still out of reach of the forest department, inspite of a daily trap that has been put down near the location of the pugmarks. The highly mysterious animal of the night though, is still out of reach.
Sujan Singh Soni, Range officer, Biological Park said that the last sighting of the animal who came back in the Biological Park was one month back, but it has been registered that the there are two animals around the park and they continuously move in and out of the park inspite of the electric solar fencing
He said that the spot of the entrance and exit is still unidentified.
Sujan Singh informed that we have already increased the height of the wall near Hanuman Mandir from where the animal was suspected to enter but that was only a assumption because after raising the height of the wall the animal is still coming easily in the Park. He added that we had taken the pugmarks of the animal and the pugmarks indicate that the animal is a fully grown male Leopard.
Leopards are very agile and elusive animals who love to hunt at night and they are rarely seen in numbers unless they are in their breeding season.
A camouflaged trap with live bait has been put near the entrance of the park where the movement of the animal is registered.
Sujan Singh informed that the current which passes through the electric wire fencing is around 7.5 to 8.5 volts which is enough to keep the carnivore off the park but sometimes the line trips and makes it easy for the Leopard to get in.
Residents of the park include among others, primates and carnivores of most kinds. Apart from these more than 3000 trees are planted across the 36 hectare area of the park. He told that RSRDC (Rajasthan State Road Development and Construction Unit) is looking after the development work of the park. He assumed that it will take almost four to five years for the completion of the park.
According to the Forest Department officials 930.29 lac rupees has been sanctioned for the development of the park and around 1.5 crore rupees has been spent on the development work. Walking path is also under construction there are also plans to move the pollution free golf car for the tourists.
