April 04, 2026: The early counting trends indicate a closely fought electoral contest between the All India Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party, with the saffron camp gradually moving ahead as results progress through successive rounds. The day-long counting process has seen multiple fluctuations, with candidates from both sides competing strongly across several key constituencies. However, as of the latest updates, the BJP appears to hold an upper hand in a number of seats, while Trinamool candidates continue to trail in select regions. The overall picture remains dynamic, with margins shifting as new rounds of counting are completed.

Ashok Dinda Takes Commanding Position in Maina Constituency

Former cricketer Ashok Dinda has emerged as a strong contender in the Maina constituency, maintaining a consistent lead after multiple rounds of counting. With 43,028 votes, he is currently ahead by 2,420 votes over Trinamool Congress candidate Chandan Mandal. The contest remains active, but Dinda’s steady lead after the sixth round of counting has placed him in a favourable position as the race moves toward its decisive stages.

In Tufanganj, Trinamool candidate Shivshankar Pal is trailing significantly, behind BJP’s Malti Rava Roy by nearly 11,000 votes. Roy, the previous MLA from the seat, has secured 40,467 votes compared to Pal’s 29,491, strengthening her hold in the constituency after the sixth round.

Elsewhere, former footballer Bidesh Bose, contesting from Saptagram on a Trinamool ticket, is trailing BJP’s Swaraj Ghosh by 6,563 votes after the third round of counting. In North Bengal, athlete Swapna Barman is also behind in her constituency, where BJP’s Swarup Ghosh has taken a substantial lead of 16,388 votes after the second round, reflecting a strong saffron wave in the region.

In Minakha, ISF candidate and football referee Pratik Mondal is performing relatively better, leading by 2,967 votes after the fourth round, with Trinamool’s Usha Rani Mondal closely trailing. Despite clear leads in some seats, the overall election outcome is still unfolding, and final results will depend on the remaining rounds of counting where several constituencies remain closely contested.
