Blast at Political Rally in Quetta Kills 11, Injures Dozens
Explosion occurred during BNP rally commemorating nationalist leader Sardar Ataullah Mengal; suicide attack suspected
Sept 2, 2025 - A blast went off in the parking lot of a stadium in Quetta, Pakistan, reportedly killing 11 people and injuring around 40 others late on Tuesday, September 2. Believed to be a suicide bombing case, the powerful blast hit the Shahwani Stadium in the capital of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
The incident took place at a political rally during which hundreds of Balochistan National Party (BNP) supporters had gathered at the stadium. According to government official Hamza Shafaat the rally was held to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Sardar Ataullah Mengal, a nationalist leader and former provincial Chief Minister.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blast so far. Emergency rescue efforts have been pressed into service and a police investigation is ongoing.
