Most of us remember the rain of 2006 which created a flood like situation in Udaipur. Many colonies and areas were completely submerged in water flowing from lakes and rivers.
One such highly affected area was Rajshree Colony, which houses more than 200 families. Rajshree Colony is located in Bohra Gansheji area.

This is not a sight where you can see people enjoying rain or water coming out from nearby waterfalls. But this is sewage water which has logged roads of Rajshree colony due to poor drainage system. It has now become a menace for the residents who are facing water logging problem since 2006 when this colony was highly flooded. Since then, in every rainy season Rajshree colony gets manmade flood. Several complaints were made to UIT and they proposed to make a canal to transport all water towards Ayad River to solve the problem.

Building of the canal was the only hope for the residents of colony to live a peaceful life and it is also their basic right. The cost of the canal was estimated around Rs. 40 lacs but the plan failed due to one plot coming on the way of canal. The plot (Vatika) owner has brought a stay order from court as he does not want his land to be used for the construction of the canal. This has left the residents of the colony in a state of confusion. However, Anil Nepaliya, Executive Engineer of UIT has ensured to take appropriate action. He says, “We have tried to solve this problem before but the court’s stay order has stopped the work. This time we are going to submit a detailed report in the court and will ask the court to take back the stay order.” Residents of the colony are also trying their level best to get rid of water logging. Today they met all the higher authorities including District Collector and Municipal Chairman to inform them about the issue.
