A two-day programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (AS) included majlis, calligraphy and painting competition; Haji Qayyum Hussain Paliwala Memorial award conferred
Udaipur, January 13, 2025: The Dawoodi Bohra community (Bohra Youth) celebrated the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (AS), the son-in-law and successor of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), yesterday, January 12, with great enthusiasm. According to Dawoodi Bohra Jamaat (DBJ) spokesperson Mansoor Ali Orawala, the celebrations included a Milad gathering on the eve of the occasion as well as a calligraphy and painting competition followed by an exhibition and a community feast the next day.
On this special day, major mosques in the neighbourhood - Vazeehpura, Rasoolpura - and the DBJ headquarters were lit up with colourful lights.
On January 11, the eve of the birth anniversary of Hazrat Ali (AS), a majlis was held at the Vazeehpura Masjid in Bohrawadi. The programme began with the recitation of the Quran, followed by praises, odes and elegies dedicated to Hazrat Ali (AS) by Muzammil and party as well as Asrar Ahmed Jawriyawala and party. The majlis was presided over by Mulla Haji Peer Ali and Maulana Ali Asgar Khilonawala who highlighted the biography of Hazrat Ali (AS), emphasising how Hazrat Ali had dedicated his entire life to serving the Prophet of Islam and giving his life for the cause of Islam. The majlis ended with prayers for peace and prosperity in India.
The calligraphy and painting exhibition was organised on January 12 at the Nikah Hall of the Jamaat Khana, Bohrawadi, showcasing the calligraphy and paintings from the competition held the previous day. The exhibition, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, was inaugurated by Mulla Peer Ali and attended by DBJ president Iqbal Hussain Rassawala, DBJ secretary Feroz Tinwala, vice-president Abrar Ahmed and other DBJ post holders including Riyaz Hussain, Feroz Nath, Shabbar Qutub and Ali Asgar Khilonawala.
Artworks by Mehdi Rangwala, Ashiq Alamshah, Rahila Gorach and other participants were put on display.
Competition co-ordinator Adnan Mashraqi informed that there were 27 participants in the calligraphy competition and 19 in the painting competition. Zahid Sabunwala and Mehdi Rangwala were the judges for the calligraphy contest while Ashiq Hussain Alamshah and Rahila Gorach judged the painting competition.
In the calligraphy competition, Fauzia Hitawala secured the first place in the 11 to 15 years age group, followed by Zahabiya KR in second and Saniya Zehra Bhalam in third. In the age group above 15 years, Saniya Zehra Prithviraj took the first prize followed by Mubeena Bagwala who stood second.
In the painting competition, Fizza Amar bagged the first prize, Sofia Pipawala got the second while Fauzia Hitawala took the third prize.
The success of the calligraphy/painting competitions as well as the exhibition was made possible by the support of DBJ members including Shere Banu Khakhar, Nazneen Mandiwala, Hameeda Zariwala, Hamida Calcuttawala, Majida Okasawala, Akhlaq Tidiwala, Ashfaq KR, Arif Batliwala, Afroz Mehmuda and Ali Mazhar Rassawala.
Haji Qayyum Hussain Paliwala Memorial Award
On this occasion, the winner of the Haji Qayyum Hussain Paliwala Memorial award was also announced. Sakina Dawood, trustee of the award institution, said that the honour is conferred on an individual or society for outstanding community service. This year the award was bestowed upon the Almdaar Helping Society for its exceptional work in the society. The award was presented at Vazeehpura Masjid by Mulla Peer Ali to members Sarfraz Rajnagarwala and Arif Batliwala.
