UdaipurTimes, Oct 16, 2026 - The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed all telecom companies to implement a system that will by default display the caller’s ID on the user’s phone screen. The implementation of the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service will be mandatory across all telecom circles from November 1, 2026, as per a DoT circular on October 15.

Users will now not need to use a separate application, like Truecaller, to activate the service. From November 1, even if a number is not saved on the user's phone, the name registered in the telecom company's records will appear on the screen. Calls from abroad will be marked as “International.”

The caller ID displayed can be the identifier name assigned by the telecom operator, name of the subscriber registered in the operator's records or any other ID as allotted.

DoT has instructed all telecom operators to implement this feature without any disruption in service.
